Head of Data & AI Governance

Responsibilities:
- Lead and further develop the enterprise-wide Data & AI Governance function, bringing Data Governance and AI Governance under a unified strategy and operating model.
- Define and implement the Data & AI Governance strategy, policies, standards, roles, decision rights, and accountability model across the organization.
- Evolve the governance operating model from centralized stewardship toward domain-driven data ownership and accountability.
- Establish and scale Data Ownership & Stewardship across business and technology domains.
- Drive enterprise Data Quality governance, including Critical Data Elements (CDEs), quality rules and thresholds, issue management, remediation processes, SLAs, and reporting.
- Develop Metadata Management, Data Catalog, Business Glossary, Data Lineage, and Impact Analysis capabilities to enable trusted self-service analytics and AI.
- Embed governance requirements into day-to-day business and technology processes in partnership with Data Engineering, Data Science & AI, Security, Legal/Compliance, and business functions.
- Establish governance for ML, GenAI, and AI agents, including risk classification, evaluation, explainability, monitoring, approval gates, human oversight, auditability, and responsible AI practices.
- Define governance controls for agentic AI, including data and tool access, permissions, sandboxing, human-in-the-loop mechanisms, monitoring, and escalation.
- Ensure appropriate governance of personal and sensitive data, including classification, access, privacy, retention, and regulatory requirements.
- Build strong engagement with senior business stakeholders and promote Data Governance as an enabler for data democratization, self-service analytics, and scalable AI adoption, rather than a purely compliance-driven function.
Requirements:
- Proven leadership experience in Data Governance / Data Management within a large, complex, data-intensive organization.
- Hands-on track record of building, transforming, or scaling an enterprise Data Governance function and operating model, rather than focusing solely on policies and methodology.
- Strong expertise in Data Ownership, Data Stewardship, Data Quality, Metadata Management, Data Catalog, Business Glossary, Data Lineage, and Impact Analysis.
- Demonstrated experience operationalizing governance across multiple business and technology domains, with clear ownership, accountability, decision rights, and escalation mechanisms.
- Experience leading teams and multiple governance streams; ability to operate at Head / Director level and influence senior stakeholders across the organization.
- Strong stakeholder management and change management capabilities, including the ability to drive adoption of governance practices across business functions.
- Good understanding of privacy and sensitive data governance, including PII, classification, access controls, and retention.
- Understanding of AI Governance / Responsible AI, including model risk, evaluation, explainability, monitoring, approval controls, and governance of GenAI / AI-agent use cases.
- Ability to combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution and translate governance principles into practical processes and controls.
- Experience with enterprise Data Governance / Catalog platforms such as Informatica, OpenMetadata, DataHub, Collibra, or similar is an advantage.
- Experience in telecom or another large-scale data-intensive industry is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of TM Forum / SID or comparable enterprise information models would be an advantage.
- Fluent professional English.
